Today I attended a “roast” of the comedic type. It was quite clever and fairly funny, but it didn’t quite work for me. Why? Because it was in the middle of our church services, and the speaker was roasting a particular family in the congregation.
“…You (family name) boys sure find pretty girls to marry. How do you do it? It’s not because you’re good lookin’, that’s a fact…”
I’m really getting tired of church services that have so much fluff. What happened to the days when the speakers: a) stuck to their topic, b) got to the point, and c) didn’t feel the need to merely entertain? I can watch TV to be entertained and distracted. I come to church to be uplifted.
Oh, and to top it all off, a guy sitting next to me just whispered “This guy is awesome!” Obviously I’m alone in wanting to grow closer to my God.

You have got to be kidding me! The closest thing we had to some like that was when we had a guy get up and talk during YM/YW visit Sunday and warn all the kiddies about the importance of not being lip whores. The revelance is that he is the biggest lip whore of us all!
