Rock Band Rocks!

When I type that, I think “Cleveland Rocks! Cleveland Rocks!” from the theme for The Drew Carey Show. Was that by The Presidents of the United States of America?

Anyhow, we picked up a copy of Rock Band for PS2 over the holiday weekend, and it rocks!

This has caused me to ponder why I really like to play video games, especially the musical instrument-centric ones. I’ve been a fan of Guitar Hero from the time that I first tried it out, and it has grown on me more and more since. I’ve only played Rock Band twice now, but I have found it to be quite the fun activity.

I think, when I narrow it all down, that I like these games for two main reasons: a) I feel like I can “let my hair [all the way] down” when I play them, and b) I get to explore my inner Rock Star.

Most people have a way to relax and unwind, and I have mine as well. But there is something fundementally different between simply relaxing and letting it all hang out. When I really go for it, I don’t only get fairly silly, but I become quite the character. If you haven’t seen me do this, well, you’re not alone. BUT, if you can entice me to spend time playing Rock Band with you, then there’s a good chance that you’ll see it in action.

I’m convinced that we all have a little “rock star” buried deep down inside of ourselves. Perhaps it comes to the surface when we sing our solos in the shower or around the house, or perhaps it is released when we play the killer air guitar solo for Van Halen’s Eruption. Regardless, it’s there no matter how hard we try to hide it.

Rock on, mates. Rock on.

Guess what we’re going to HAVE to do now when you get here this weekend??? :) I’ll have to get the band together for you so I can see this “Jake Unleashed”.

What I think is so significant about this post isn’t that you have this “secret” passion for getting crazy and unleashing the inner Rock Star; you are doing it in the presence of others. Perhaps I am biased, but I find that incredibly rare (especially considering your sobriety in these moments!). You are a brave little toaster…

I can’t recall my last over-the-top silly moment, but wherever it was, you can be sure that I was pretty selective about who was present. LOL

Did you see there is now an Aeorsmith Rock Band version? Or maybe it was Aerosmith Guitar Hero. One of the two.

I did see that – I’m pretty sure that’s the new Guitar Hero. I can’t exactly say that I’m a huge Aerosmith fan, but new songs are ALWAYS fun!
