There’s more than one way to…

…Celebrate Halloween. Last fall, some friends and I decided that it would be fun to have a Halloween party this year, filled with costumes and games and lots of guests. Well, as this Halloween approached, we decided that, while it could still be fun to have the party, it would be MORE fun to go to Six Flags for Halloween instead. So we did.

We live about 3.5 hours from Six Flags, so we don’t get there too frequently. It’s probably been three years since I had been there, so I was pretty excited to go back.

In the fall, most theme parks are only open on the weekend, and this park was no exception. So, instead of going up on Halloween itself, we ended up going on the day after.

Six Flags hosts “FrightFest” each year, and I think they do it at each of their fifteen parks. As part of this, they decorate the park all spooky-like, they rename rides and attractions with creepy names, and after dark they have people, dressed in freakish costumes, lurk in the darker areas to jump out and startle people. It’s quite interesting, really.

And while that may sound really awesome to some, I was more interested in riding roller coasters and getting exhilaration in that way. We actually avoided a lot of the Halloween festivities by spending the daytime there, but I think we all had a really fun time.

I’m really glad to have good friends that put up with my nonsense, craziness, and erratic driving so that I can enjoy a day of their company.

A few other points of possible interest:
- We went to the Six Flags Great America park in Gurnee, IL. For the record, it’s REALLY close to Lake Michigan, which means it’s typically colder there than, say, St. Louis, which would the another Six Flags that we could go to. Yesterday, when we arrived at the park, it was about 55 degrees. I thought it was “warm enough”, so I left my jacket in the car. By mid-afternoon, the temperature had dropped substantially, and I was freezing. One real highlight of the trip was the little boy, who couldn’t have been over 10-years-old, asked me, “Dude, are you cold?” I replied, “I’m a little chilly.” He turned around to his (assumed) parents and said, “Yup. He’s cold.” We laughed so hard that I actually warmed up a bit!
-My sister actually went to the Six Flags in St. Louis, and it was 70-75 degrees there, all day.
-We purchased season passes for next year, which means you’ll have to sift through many more posts about theme parks when spring/summer comes. Or, if you’d rather, you’ll just have to plan to come along! Either one works for me ;) .
-While we didn’t have time to ride ALL of the rides, we only missed 2 of the roller coasters. They all rock.
-Coasters are ten-times more fun when it’s completely dark outside.
-I’m warm today.

JB – you were as cold as us and you kept saying you were fine! Now the truth comes out – hehe. It was a wonderful day, I think it ended to soon, and it did take the whole trip home before I warmed up. And JB you can drop the Mr. – makes me sound really old.
