Follow-up to a Previous Post

In case you were wondering about why I felt blindsided last week, I was approached last Tuesday with a potential job offer within our IT department at work. Well, I was given the impression that it was a REAL job offer at the time, thus the overwhelming feelings of craziness. But everything has worked out, for now at least and hopefully for the better.

Today I was officially offered a position entitled “Quality Assurance Analyst”, which I promptly accepted. I didn’t really think I had much of an option, actually, because I first received an email notification from our HR department that indicated my new title woud take effect on 1/1/09.

Going through the process, I was given the impression that this was a hush-hush-type of arrangement and that I shouldn’t openly talk about the potential change with coworkers. That was fine. I succeeded. However, when the email notification from HR was delivered to MY ENTIRE GROUP of coworkers, it became a bit hard to cover. I immediately forwarded the email to my (now new) supervisor asking him if we should have a little chat. We did – he offered the job, I accepted, and all is well.

So…. just in case you are in a position to offer jobs to other people, please make sure that EVERYone involved is on the same page, especially if it’s supposed to be a quite thing. Only a couple of my coworkers know about it now, so everything is still okay… but SHEESH! :)

No, that job is still right here in Peoria. However, the job is one that won’t necessarily require me to be in the office all day every day. I’m hoping that there will be times that I can plan to work remotely, thus allowing for a bit more travel :)
