Pop-Philosophy: Pet Peeves

December 9th, 2008 · 2 Comments

C’mon, everyone! Let’s let them all hang out with this post.

The other night, I was trying to think of something to use for a pop-philosophy post, and I asked for some suggestions from M. She said that she had a few ideas and would get back to me. I began to anticipate the response, seeing as how she is the one that got me started with pop-philosophy in the first place. Nearly 24-hours later, I happend to see her status message on Facebook, which illustrated one of my latest and biggest peeves. Her status said: “M hates the desperate emails that come at 2 in the morning.”

What’s wrong with that? Well, nothing actually. In fact, she was illustrating the PROPER way to say “XX in the morning”. My peeve is that so many people will instead say: “It happened at 2 AM in the morning.” Really? 2 AM in the MORNING? Is that different than 2 AM in the midday, afternoon, evening or night? Get my point?

This morning I got to work and opened up my Outlook, which manages some RSS Feeds for me, and there was one for WhiteEyebrow’s post about his own pet peeve. It seems like he has encountered some people that don’t know how to deal with four-way stops. I also have a peeve or so with bad drivers.

So, people of the interweb, what really irks you?

(Note from editor: Your comments are always welcomed and encouraged on this site. I realize that this may be a push-button topic, though, so please be sure to keep any swearing to a minimum, or at least be creative with your selection of adjectives. I’m not opposed to editing comments that might offend, say, my mother.)

It irks me when people use “really” and “kind of” right after the other. For example, “It was really kind of awesome!” Well, was it REALLY awesome, or just KIND OF awesome? It feels like that is being abused more and more as the days go by…
